Electricity:
Electricity in Vietnam is 220 Volts, alternating at 50 cycles per second. If you travel to Vietnam with a device that does not accept 220 Volts at 50 Hertz, you will need a voltage converter.

more info: http://treehouse.ofb.net/go/en/voltage/Vietnam

Depending on your electronics (please check first) for charging laptops, cameras, and video cameras you may need a power converter and an adapter.
REI sells Eagle Creek’s kit
Walkabouttravelgear has more info and converters and adapters for sale, including one that is also a surge protector

Preparations & Precautions:
I scan my passport, drivers license, and credit cards. Then, print it all out to carry in a different bag than the originals. I also advise emailing those scans to yourself in case everything is lost you can access those documents from almost anywhere with an internet cafe.

Dress:
Women: please dress modestly. Do not wear shorts or short skirts (knee length ok), tank tops, spaghetti straps anything tight fitting. Women/men: Loose technical sport clothing (ex. found at REI) or loose cotton or light breathable, washable synthetic clothing is great. Also please pack a hat for sun protection as we may be in the sun for extended periods of time.

Traveler’s Stomach:
Be prepared for travelers stomach; diarrhea and/or vomiting caused by bacteria in food. Antibiotics should generally only be taken in severe cases. Ciprofloxacin, also known as Cipro, and Norfloxacin are the two most common antibiotics for this. It is safe to discontinue taking these antibiotic as soon as symptoms cease unlike with other antibiotics. You may want to ask your doctor to prescribe antibiotics to take along just in case. I always pack Immodium anti-diarrhea pills and a laxative like Dulcolax. (traveling causes digestive upset in both directions sometimes!) Click here here as well

Personal Fist Aid Kit:
You are required to carry your own personal first aid kit. electrolytes, personal prescriptions, band aids and blister protection, antibiotic ointments, sun block, above recommended medicines, etc. Click here here as well for a great check list.
